Early Career Researcher Event

ASO ECR Event 2022

Ahead of UKCO 2022, ASO will again be hosting an event for early career researchers (ECRs) on 6th September at Lancaster University. The event will include career progression talks from academia and industry perspectives, and workshops on relevant transferrable skills.

  • Be the first to sign up to ASO’s new mentoring scheme which will link up senior ASO members with ECRs

Who can attend?

To be eligible to register, you will need to:

  • Be an early career researcher*
  • Be a member of ASO
  • Register to attend the UK Congress on Obesity (UKCO) 2022
  • Be able to attend the event in-person

* ‘Early career researchers’ (ECRs) are defined as researchers who have not yet held a full-time permanent academic post in a university or comparable institution. ECRs should not have held any substantial grant income as a Principal Investigator and / or should not have already established their own research group. There are no eligibility rules based on years of post-doctoral experience. Our definition of ECRs includes postgraduate students, doctoral students, post-doctoral researchers, and researchers transitioning to independence.

To register, you will need to submit an abstract about a work-in-progress, i.e., current research and/or implementation that is not yet completed. This could include, for example, research that you are planning but haven’t yet commenced, research you are currently conducting, or research that is completed but requires further interpretation.

We will select three abstracts for presentation at the event. If your abstract is selected, you will be asked to prepare a 10-minute presentation about your work-in-progress. After each presentation, there will be a 10-minute Q&A session to obtain feedback, questions, and suggestions from your peers. Delegates with selected abstracts will also have the opportunity (optional) to prepare a poster about their work-in-progress which will be displayed at the main UKCO congress.

Please note, if your abstract is not selected, you will still be welcome to attend the event.
