Midlands

The Midlands ASO Network and the East Midlands Bariatric & Metabolic Institute (EMBMI) aim to promote interaction and opportunities for shared learning among all those with an interest in preventing obesity and its health and social consequences. Our vision is to bring together those working in the health, local authority and academic sectors across the region to share and discuss obesity research and practice.

The Midlands Network plan to hold meetings on at least an annual basis. Attendance at these meeting is open to anyone with an interest in obesity, and may be of particular interest to those working in health services, local authority, public health, commissioners of obesity services, and academics.

The Midlands Network committee includes:

  • Dr David Hughes, Royal Derby Hospital. (ASO Trustee)
  • Dr Abd Tahrani, University of Birmingham. (ASO Trustee)
  • Mr Sherif Awad, Royal Derby Hospital. (EMBMI Lead)

Meetings

Based on recent events and the rapidly evolving nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided to postpone the ASO Midlands network event that was planned for Monday 29 June.

The decision has been made to protect the health of those involved and to allow our colleagues to focus on all of the complex priorities you face in the coming months.

We hope to reschedule the event in the future and will keep you updated.
