World Obesity Day 2023

The UK Association for Obesity (ASO) is supporting this year’s World Obesity Day campaign taking place Saturday, 4th March, 2023. The theme is “Changing Perspectives: Let’s Talk Obesity” in recognition of the power that talking about weight harnesses, because when we talk, debate, and share we can shift narratives which help to transform health outcomes.

Healthcare professionals can make an enormous difference to the lived experience of a person with obesity. Yet, obesity remains poorly understood among healthcare professionals. By learning how to talk about weight – with both patients and co-workers - healthcare professionals can improve understanding of obesity, treatment of obesity, and patient’s health.

Educational events and resources

Educate yourself through webinars or seminar. ASO members can watch recordings of our webinars and network meeting presentation on demand via our website. Check out the ASO events page for upcoming events from ASO and other organisations. This year's UK Congress on Obesity (UKCO) will be held on the 14th and 15th of September, hosted by Queen’s University in Belfast - the theme of this year's congress is “Obesity Connections” - registration is now open.

Visit the Explore Obesity educational resource hub for a source of reliable and regularly updated information on obesity. The hub from ASO and the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) features webinars, videos, e-learning modules and more on a variety of topics. The resource aims to increase awareness of obesity, help create positive changes in the daily practice of healthcare professionals and improve the lives of people living with obesity.
