ASO UKCO Travel Bursaries 2023
The Association for the Study of Obesity is offering up to ten travel bursaries of £250 to help support ASO members who would otherwise be excluded from attending UK Congress on Obesity (UKCO) 2023.
The value of the award is intended to contribute to the costs associated with travel and accommodation associated with attending UKCO 2023 in Belfast Northern Ireland.
Preference will be given to those who have submitted an abstract to present work at UKCO, and whilst funded PhD students (e.g. those in receipt of University or Research council studentships) are not excluded from applying, priority for these travel bursaries will be given to applicants who demonstrate that they have no funds which could reasonably be used to pay for their attendance at an academic conference. This includes, but is not limited to, self-funded or unfunded students at any stage (including undergraduate and masters students wishing to present their dissertation or projects), postdoctoral researchers or newly appointed lecturers who do not have research budgets, and those who primarily work clinically in any capacity, but have undertaken research in addition to their primary clinical role.
The value of each award will be £250 which will be paid directly to the awardees prior to the conference. Bank account details will be required to permit transfer of the bursary. Any bursary winners from outside the UK will only be paid at their requested currency equivalent.
All awardees will be required to submit a short report detailing their experience of the conference and how attending UKCO 2023 in Belfast benefitted them and their career. Any awardees who withdraw or are unable to attend the conference after any award has been made will be required to repay the bursary.
To be eligible for the Award the applicant should be a current member of the ASO with applications from people at all career stages welcome. Submissions from non-members are also welcome as long as an application for ASO membership is submitted with the travel bursary submission.
Application Deadline
The application deadline for ASO Travel Bursaries will be 7th July 2023. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Successful applicant(s) will be notified shortly after the 14th July 2023
Selection Committee
The award will be decided by a Selection Panel of ASO Trustees and assessed against the stated criteria for this award.
