Professor of Cardiometabolic Medicine University of Glasgow
Naveed Sattar, Professor of Cardiometabolic Medicine at the University of Glasgow, is internationally recognised in cardiometabolic disease. He has epidemiology, mechanistic and trial expertise in diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease and contributed to several other randomised lifestyle trials (e.g. DIRECT, UPBEAT, EUROFIT). He has contributed to several trials of pharmaceutical agents in diabetes and contributed to 8 national / international guidelines with relevance to diabetes, obesity and CV disease. He has authored/co-authored over 1300 published papers and has been cited >135K times (Web of Science) and >220K (Google Scholar) and was #185 all-time cited in medicine in a recent listing World's Best Medicine Scientists: H-Index Medicine Science Ranking 2023 (Research.com). He has been in the top 1% of cited clinical academics in the world annually since 2014 (Clarivate Analytics Highly Cited Researcher list). He was recipient of the Banting Lecture by Diabetes UK in 2023 and previous recipient of the Camillo Golgi and Minkowski Award Lectures by EASD. He is an Associate Editor for Diabetes Care. In late 2023 he was appointed as the UK Government’s new Obesity Mission Chair.
