Dr Emma Shuttlewood
Clinical Psychologist in Bariatrics University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire
Dr Emma Shuttlewood, Clinical Psychologist, gained her doctorate at the University of Oxford and has worked in both clinical and academic roles across various NHS organisations specialising in weight management and bariatric surgery.
Emma has significant experience initiating and developing the psychological aspect of weight management services, providing both group and individual support for patients. She draws from a range of psychological approaches within her clinical work with a preference for Solution Focused Practice and Compassion Focused Therapy. She uses her extensive clinical skills to explore issues of shame and low self-worth, support people to look for exceptions to their difficulties and make small steady behavioural changes towards a more positive future.
Emma currently sits on two national committees: the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS) and the British Psychological Society’s (BPS) Obesity Special Interest Group committee. She is incredibly passionate about using her experience and platforms to improve the lives of people living in larger bodies, reduce the stigma experienced and support improved psychological services throughout their care.
Emma currently works part-time in a specialist NHS weight management and bariatric surgery service for the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire, UK. She also works as an Associate Clinical Psychologist for Verve Health Group and provides adhoc Consultancy to Reed Wellbeing Ltd on the psychological aspects of their health behaviour change programmes used within the North of England.
When Emma is not completely exhausted from working and caring for two young children, she attempts to keep active with yoga and running, and enjoys reading and sewing quilts.
