Hao is a PhD student at the MRC Epidemiology Unit, University of Cambridge. Her research explores the impact of social media on eating attitudes and behaviours among teenagers and young adults, with the aim of developing a social media-based intervention to promote healthy eating and body positivity, while preventing disordered eating and unhealthy weight control practices. Her broader research interests include obesity prevention, behaviour change, and youth engagement in digital health.
Hao is passionate about improving public understanding of nutrition and health research, particularly in ways that resonate with younger audiences and address the links between diet, mental health, and body image. As ASO’s Communication Intern, Hao supports the development of accessible, evidence-based messaging across the organisation’s digital platforms.
Outside of her academic work, Hao promotes evidence-based nutrition, body positivity, and healthy weight management on Chinese social media, where she has a following of over 120,000. Through short videos and visual content, she shares relatable, practical, science-informed messages that encourage balanced, sustainable lifestyle habits.
