ASO Scotland Network Natter July 2023

When: Monday, 31st July 2023, 1:00pm - 2:00pm

For July we have Gina Wren, who is a 2021 Oxford-MRC DTP Enterprise iCASE PhD scholar in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences under the supervision of Professor Susan Jebb, Dr Dimitrios Koutoukidis, and Dr Jadine Scragg. Her project is in partnership with Second Nature, a digital weight management service provider commissioned by NHS England. Accordingly, her doctoral research project focusses on using behavioural insights to improve the effectiveness of digital weight loss interventions. Over the course of her PhD, Gina will focus on developing and testing new intervention components aiming to foster participant engagement.

Gina’s talk is entitled ‘Optimisation of a digitally-delivered behavioural weight loss programme’. Gina will provide an overview of a novel approach for optimising complex interventions to support behaviour change. The approach, guided by the multiphase optimisation strategy (MOST), employs highly efficient randomised experimentation to identify an optimal intervention prior to a definitive evaluation. Gina will describe how the MOST framework can be used to develop effective interventions in relation to weight loss. Specifically outlining a trial aimed at optimising the clinical effectiveness of a digitally-delivered behavioural weight loss programme run by Second Nature.

This event will be in the format of a short presentation followed by a Q&A/discussion amongst attendees.
